Our scheduled mobile camping safaris are full participation safaris,
all equipment included. All our safaris start in
Maun, the tourism capital of Botswana, and end in either Maun or Kasane
with transfers to Vic Falls or Livingstone.
We prefer spending at least two nights in one place so we're not continually
pitching then striking camp. Most campsites have basic showers and
toilets but some of the private bush camp sites have no facilities,
so your guide will erect a bush shower and toilet for you.
Please note that none of the camp sites in Botswana National Parks
and Reserves are fenced.
All camping equipment is included in our mobile camping safaris:
tables, chairs, crockery, cutlery, cooking equipment, bucket showers,
tents, mattresses etc.
You will sleep in dome tents, on mattresses with covers/sheets.
Please note: we do not provide sleeping bags, camping pillows or
towels. You will need to bring your own on safari.
We do not accept children under the age of 16 on our scheduled mobile
camping safaris. However, we will take children between the ages
of 10 and 15 on private mobile camping safaris, on condition that
the children are solely the parent/s responsibility at all times
whilst on safari, and that the children share a tent with the parent/s.
Please bear in mind that children's normal movement/activities
are restricted on mobile camping safari, and they can and do get
bored very quickly sitting in a vehicle for long hours.
Everyone helps with the day-to-day chores of vehicle packing, pitching
& striking camp, cooking, and washing up. Our guides and camp
assistants will assist wherever possible.
If you would prefer to have a cook on safari then we can arrange
this for an extra fee.
We provide purified drinking water, cooldrink mix; fruit juice;
local beers and wines. If you would like to have spirits on safari
then you are welcome to purchase your own. We do not supply any
cola’s or canned drinks.
It is advisable to bring along your own water bottle to keep with
you on the vehicle during game drives.
All our guides are qualified Botswana Safari guides with a love
of the bush, and an enthusiasm to pass on their knowledge of Botswana's
fauna and flora to you.
Your guide will be your tour leader, guide, and driver of the safari
vehicle.
We don't believe in the "cattle truck" mentality. All
our safaris have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 people per trip.
We can accommodate larger groups on request.
It is essential to take out Medical Insurance which includes emergency
medical evacuation for the duration of your safari. It is also advisable
to have travel insurance.
Some of our safaris include the first and/or last night in a lodge.
Accommodation is in en-suite chalets or rooms, on a bed & breakfast
basis. Dinner, drinks and any other extras are for your own account.
Our scheduled safaris are all budget safaris, and thus the lodge
accommodation is not up-market. If you wish to upgrade your lodge
accommodation you are welcome to do so but this will be for your
own account.
You will be limited to a luggage allowance of two pieces per person
the total weight not exceeding 15kg in soft bags only - no hard
suitcases. Rucksacks/backpacks are permitted as long as they are
not too bulky.
You can also bring along a camera case and/or handbag. If you have
extra luggage then it can be stored in our Maun office.
Please note that the 15kg limit is strictly enforced for all air
charter flights.
Our guide and camp assistant will help you to prepare the meals,
set up camp, collect firewood, and make the camp fires, but the
guide’s strength lies in animal spotting and bush lore, and the
camp assistant is more proficient at setting up camp and washing
the dishes - not cuisine!
We provide you with menus and recipes which include preparation
instructions. The menu includes toast, yogurt and cereal for breakfast;
sandwiches, cold meats, salads, & cheeses at lunchtime; hot,
tasty stews with rice/pasta/potatoes and vegetables for dinner.
We do our best to accommodate those with special dietary requirements
but supplies and variety are dependent on local availability.
If you would prefer to have a cook on safari then we can arrange
this for an extra fee.
There will be a first aid kit on the safari vehicle, but it is advisable
to bring along your own small personal kit.
Botswana is a malaria area, so please consult your doctor or local
travel clinic in regard to precautionary medications.
It is not necessary to have any other inoculations when visiting
Botswana, except for yellow fever if you are entering from a country
which has yellow fever.
If you require medical evacuation for a serious illness/injury
then you will need medical
insurance to cover the evacuation, as well as hospital medical costs,
to a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Night game drives are not permitted in Botswana National Parks and
Reserves.
Pre-safari accommodation is only included in a few of our safari
tours. It is advisable to arrive in Maun the day prior to your safari
departure date. All our mobile safaris depart Maun between 9 and
10.30am.
Those safaris which start with a three night stay at a camp in
the Okavango Delta can arrive in Maun on the first day of the safari,
and fly directly out to the camp. Please take note that the latest
time to fly out to the Delta is 4pm.
It's getting harder and harder to offer quality safaris at reasonable
prices in Botswana, however, we are committed to providing you with
the best possible value for money. For our 2008 scheduled safaris
we are offering a discount off the normal tour rate for any booking
of 5 or 6 people (in one booking).
A typical day on mobile camping safari will include morning and
afternoon game drives, with the midday hours spent in camp.
We get up early, between 5 and 6am, have coffee and tea round the
camp fire, as well as a light breakfast if you wish, before heading
out for our morning game drive.
We return to camp in the mid to late morning. The length of the
game drive is dependant upon what we spot while on our morning game
drive. After breakfast/brunch, you are free to relax in camp: reading;
chatting, have a siesta; bird spotting; take a shower etc.
After tea, in the mid to late afternoon, we head out for our afternoon
game drive, returning to camp just after sunset, in time to prepare
your evening meal.
On days when you move camp, you will pack up camp after your early
morning tea/coffee and breakfast. When moving to a different campsite
within the various parks and reserves, the transfer will be a game
drive, with a stop for lunch along the way on the longer routes.
Whilst on mobile camping safari you will be in an open game-viewing
4x4 vehicle. As the maximum number of people on any safari will
be six, this will afford each person an outer seat.
Walking is not permitted in Botswana National Parks and Reserves.
However, in the Okavango Delta section of our mobile camping safaris,
you will be afforded the opportunity to walk on the islands in the
Delta, accompanied by a guide (un-armed). |
